I am a pet portrait artist based in the south of County Durham.  My family includes a cute, boisterous, golden retriever called Max and a crazy, characterful, 16.3, ex-event horse called Ping, so I've become best known for my dog and equine commissions.  However, I was the Cat Portrait Artist of the Year in 2023 and love to draw cats - I just wish I was asked for them more often.

I was awarded my degree in Art and Design from Edinburgh College of Art in 1991 and attempted to be a jewellery designer/maker for a few years before being forced to 'get a proper job'.  I trained to be a teacher and have only just retired from Education after being a Headteacher for almost 20 years.  This has allowed me to work as a pet portrait artist full-time, something I have been doing in my spare time since 2020.  Since then I have completed over 200 commissions. One of the parts of the process I particularly enjoy is finding out what makes each of the animals so special and so loved by their owners.  I try to capture their personalities in their portraits and it is this aspect most often commented upon by happy customers.
